2018 Madtown Optimist Regatta Results
The night before and early morning of the regatta was ominous with strong thunderstorms and tons of rain. However as the morning progressed the rain stopped in time for registration and setup, however the wind died as soon as we got out on the lake. After an hour of drifting the sailors rafted up to the coaches and swam until lunch. The lunch break was followed by a few paddle board relay races. In the middle of the relay races we saw the clouds coming our way, so we did an amazingly quick fire-drill and got all of the boats on the water. We went from paddle board relays race to warning in about 10 minutes. As the clouds moved in the wind continued to build so that we could get 4 great races. The conditions did become more difficult as the waves continued to develop and offer a challenge to our younger sailors. But everyone handled the wind and waves with great bravery and excellent skill.
