Advanced Sailing Classes

Register for Green or RWB
Our Optimist Dinghy courses are designed to enable sailors to learn how to sail at an age appropriate level, growing from basic sailing skills and introductory racing including knots, rigging and basic seamanship and, as students progress, to progressively more challenging skills, including beginning racing techniques and seamanship skills.

MYSF offers 2 levels of classes, based in the methodology and approach of Optimist Dinghy sailing worldwide.
Green Fleet and RWB classes will run every Monday - Friday from 1pm - 4pm fro 8 weeks, June 15 - August 7.

GREEN FLEET [Beginner, Introductory]
This class is ideal for your beginner sailor, with the goal to provide a fun, safe, and educational experience on the water. Your child will learn basic sailing skills, including rigging, knots, basic seamanship, and an introduction to racing. Supported by a team of three experienced sailing coaches, these sessions will provide the skills necessary to begin racing, and compete in Green Fleet regattas, at which MYSF will provide a coach. The Green Fleet is the perfect introduction to create life-long sailors.

All classes are held at MYSF and occur rain or shine
. Coaching will also be available at specified regattas for Green Fleet students, LBSS Opti, LBSS Opti, ILYA No Tears and Pram Power.

Recommended For: Students should be 6 years or older, or have been previously previously enrolled in or currently be enrolled in our Kinderpram  or Learn to Sail classes.  At the parents discretion, independent 5 year olds may also register.

RED/WHITE/BLUE FLEET [Intermediate, Advanced]
Students in this class will build upon the Green Fleet curriculum and introduce intermediate and advanced racing techniques and seamanship skills. Students will be instructed how to rig his/her boat and become a self-reliant sailor. Students also will learn rules, tactics and proper sailing techniques. As appropriate, the MYSF coaching staff will introduce new sailing opportunities to the class, such as X Boats (double handed).

All classes are held at MYSF and occur rain or shine. Coaching will also be available at specified regattas for RWB students, including LBSS Opti, GLSS Dingyfest, and ILYA Optimist Championships.

Friday Race Days: Each Friday, RWB students will participate in a cumulative summer series and is intended as a replacement of the evening sailing team of previous years. There will be on the water coaching by MYSF staff. Parents are encouraged to attend. Even if your child is not registered for all 4 RWB sessions, they are welcome to participate in Friday race days.

Recommended For: This course is recommended for sailors who have completed the Green Fleet class and have been given the recommendation from MYSF staff to move up to RWB, or have previous Opti/racing experience.
