Meet the 2019 MYSF Instructors
We are excited to announce our new instructors for the 2019 Summer.
Will Huerth, Head Instructor and Race Coach, in my 10+ years of teaching, competing and team building in the sport of sailing, it has been my pleasure to help hundreds of people become lifetime sailors. I truly enjoy giving back my time and talents to the sailing community that shaped who I am today. Prior to joining MYSF, I served as the Sailing Director at the Delavan Lake Sailing (2017-2018), and as the Head Coach at the Geneva Lake Sailing School (2014-2017). I am a 3rd generation inland lake sailor from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I grew up learning how to sail crewing for my mother on our family C Scow. After winning my first major regatta in 2013 (X-ILYA Championship), I was immediately addicted to the competitive atmosphere of sailboat racing. When racing or coaching, it is my goal to help the team perform at their highest potential while having a great time on and off the water. My aim is to provide avenues for people of all ages/abilities to learn and enjoy the sport of I cherish the most.
Tye Rubin, Instructor and Racing Coach, I have been sailing since I first stepped foot in a boat at a summer camp in Becket, Massachusetts at the age of seven years old. Through my 13 years of sailing experience I have competed, taught and learned many valuable lessons, which I intend to pass onto whoever I instruct. Before MYSF, I served as an instructor for Camp Becket and DC Sail. My racing experience has been in a highly competitive high school circuit around the Chesapeake Bay Region called MDISA, a league within MASSA. After high school, I started to sail for University of Wisconsin competing in regattas at the intersectional and regional level. In addition to this, I compete in J22’s back home in Maryland as well as here in Madison through Mendota YC. I also recently competed in Richardson Trophy, the second oldest match racing trophy in the world, as a tactician. Ever since I started sailing my goal has been to push others and myself around me to maximize their potential to create a competitive yet fun environment. Working for MYSF, I hope to transfer this love for sailing everyone decides to start or continue the journey which is the sport of sailing.
Will Segersten, Junior Instructor, starting sailing Optis in Madison when he was 6 and has been racing on and off ever since. Will will be instructor for our standard sessions, while also participating in the racing team and attending opti regattas as a competitor.
