Meet the 2020 MYSF Instructors
Charlie Kutschenreuter, Head Instructor and Race Coach. At the age of 5, my dad put me in an Opti for the first time during a Kinderpram class at Lake Beulah Sailing School. That began what is now an eighteen year (and counting) sailing career. I started in Optis at age 5 and sailed them until I couldn't fit under the boom anymore. At that point I stepped up to the X-boat which I sailed for 5 years until aging out. The next step for me was to join the C-fleet, compete on the Wisconsin sailing team, and begin coaching the next generation of youth sailors. I have two older brothers that are both phenomenal sailors and even better coaches who pushed me to be my best throughout my early sailing career. I try to model my coaching around their competitive and enthusiastic style to make make sure young sailors are developing fundamental skills while still enjoying the sport. This will be my 6th year coaching sailing, with my previous years being spent as head instructor at Delavan & Lake Beulah Sailing School where I was able to coach one sailor to a 2017 Class X Senior Inland championship and another to a 2018 Quad Lake Championship. When I am not sailing, I love to still be enjoying the outdoors through fishing, camping, and sports.
Jack Barnes, Instructor and Racing Coach. I’m a junior at UW-Madison studying Economics and Manufacturing Engineering. I joined the UW Sailing team my freshman year and it has been my favorite experience in college. In my free time, I love to be outdoors. In the summer I enjoy spending my time on the water sailing, wake surfing, and water skiing while also climbing when I get the chance. When the lake freezes, pond hockey and downhill skiing are my preferred pastimes. I think I’m addicted to Oreo cookies but I’m still waiting to hear back about my diagnosis.
Will Segersten, Instructor. Started sailing Optis in Madison when he was 6 and has been racing on and off ever since. Will is returning for his 3rd year as an instructor at Madison Youth Sailing.
